Cabarete, April 25, 2018 – The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival (Fedujazz) Foundation is actively preparing its traditional annual jazz event to mark International Jazz Day. All events scheduled to highlight this international musical gender has been authorized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to take place in the beautiful beaches of Cabarete, situated in the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
The “Colors of Jazz” Festival will combine jazz with painting and recycling activities. Foundation students and teachers will entertain the general public in attendance with beautiful jazz pieces. In the meantime, the parents, students and community members will participate in a parallel activity that will include the painting of garbage tanks and the use of recycled plastic materials in the Foundation’s new percussion ensemble.
The event is scheduled to take place on April 28, between 10 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the FEDUJAZZ headquarters in Cabarete Beach, also known as the “Surfwind Capital of the Caribbean.” The event will include family members, students, as well as regional educational and community centers.
The program schedule will include the following musical groups: Ensemble Contemporary Jazz; Ensemble Jazz 2, coordinated by the Alex Drying Foundation; the Fedujazz Big Band; the Saxophone Ensemble Group; the Flute Ensemble Group, headed by Maestro Jefry Casimiro, who also heads a Guitar Ensemble Group. There will also be a percussion workshop for the entire family, using recycled materials. Maestro David Almengod will be in charge of this event.
This goal of this event is to provide the general public with information on jazz, as well as its beginnings and traditions. Also, to help understand why jazz is an instrument of peace, dialogue and cooperation between nations. Governments, educational institutions and civil society institutions that work in the promotion of this musical genre will take this opportunity to explain why jazz also contributes to build more inclusive societies.
UNESCO proclaimed April 30th as International Jazz Day in November 2011.
