Santo Domingo, August 13, 2019 – Organizers of the “Libélula Dorada” International Short Film Festival recently announced that the sixth annual film event will be held from August 21-27 in Santo Domingo. This year´s Festival will feature 80 short national and international short films, which will be exhibited simultaneously in some of Santo Domingo´s most popular movie theaters: the Palacio del Cine in Ágora Mall and in the Palacio del Cine in Sambil Shopping Center, both conveniently located in centrally located areas of the capital city.
The Festival agenda will also include films for children and youth, and the annual “Meet and Greet” sessions, co-sponsored by Larimar Films, EGEDA Dominicana, Palacio del Cine and the Hidden Lotus Entertainment Group.
It will also feature a retrospective of Dominican short film productions.
As in the past, the goal of the Festival is to highlight the importance of short films in the Dominican and audiovisual movie industry, and this way contribute to the growth and strengthening of an industry that will have a true national identity and that has the standards and quality demanded by the international markets,” expressed Festival director Katherine Bautista.
In remarks delivered during the announcement ceremony, Bautista also referred to the
educational aspect of the Festival. This year, specifically, Festival organizers have included in the program agenda a series of workshops and speakers that will highlight the importance of this specific artistic medium. Distinguished professionals such as Fernando Rodríguez, CEO of the ad agency “Mente Elástica,” will lead a workshop on ¨Film Brand Elements.¨
Other workshops included in the program are “Sketching a Draft;” “Survival Guide on How to Make a Movie Storyboard,¨ by Lewis Castillo, and ¨Storytelling: From Films to Social Media,” led by Marc Mejía.
Another novelty in this year´s program will be a panel discussion on “Film Associations: Their Roles and Importance Within the Movie Industry.” Six representatives of some of the country´s most important associations – such as the Dominican Association of Film Professionals (ADOCINE); the Dominican Association of Women in the Film Industry; the Dominican Press and Film Critics Association; the Association to Protect the Rights of Audiovisual Producers and the Dominican Association of Actors – will lead some of the workshops.
The announcement ceremony was held at the Palacio del Cine, situated at the Blue Mall shopping center – one of Santo Domingo´s trendiest. Organizers also announced the members of this year´s jury: Sheyla Paz Hicks, Rubén Peralta, Milbert Pérez, Jairo Cruz Silva and Elsa Turull de Alma, who this year will be the jury´s acting president.
Through its six-year run the Festival has exhibited some 200 fiction, non-fiction, experimental, animation and documentary short films from all over the world. The Festival has continued to grow continuously both in the D.R. and international venues.
