Santo Domingo, January 25, 2019 – Last December 21 a full house of jazz lovers came together to close the 9th season of the Fiesta Sunset Jazz Festival. Crooner Gustavo de Hostos and his guests delighted the audience in the only space where top jazz is celebrated in the city of Santo Domingo week after week.
During the last nine years 437 concerts have been held, featuring top national and international jazz musicians, and highlighting the Good Living concept in the capital city found in the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino. The goal of the Festival is to promote jazz in the Dominican Republic.
The event “Jazz in Dominicana” has succeeded in turning this weekly jazz event into one of the city’s top mecca for jazz lovers. Next Friday, February 1, organizers will launch the 10th jazz Festival, featuring some of the best national and international jazz groups and musicians.
During the past decade jazz lovers in the Dominican Republic have enjoyed the best jazz, blues, Bossa Nova and other musical genres, performed by the best national and international musicians. The Festival has featured instrumental and vocal jazz – featuring in some cases Grammy-winning musicians.
The Festival will open this year with the presentation of world renowned Italian trombonist Sandro Comini.
Comini, who is the promoter of a particular jazz style that highlights the classical use of the trombone (J.J. Johnson, Bill Wattous), with a sweet sound reminiscent of music great Frank Rosolino. Also on stage will be musicians accompanied by American Corey Allen (piano); Pengbian Sang (base); and Guy Frómeta (percussion). All will give it their all in their particular area of expertise. Comini will present such jazz classics as The Nearness of you, Stella by Starlight, Au Privave, Days of Wine and Roses, and many more.
