Funglode Announces “First Meeting on Communication and Gastronomy”, Sponsored by the Gastronomy and Communications Platform “GastroComunica”

Santo Domingo, May 27, 2019 – The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), through its initiative Dominicanaonline.org, and Bocatips, formally invite all those interested in the tourism and gastronomic sectors to the “First Meeting on Communications and Gastronomy.” The activity is also supported by the Dominican Academy of Gastronomy and the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES).
The event will be held on Wednesday, June 26, and Thursday, June 27, in Funglode headquarters. The opening ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, at 7:00 p.m., will be headed by Antonella Ruggiero Sansone, General Director of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy, who will deliver keynote remarks on “Communicating for Ibero-America: The Multi-Channel Academy at the Service of the Gastronomic Sector.”
During the event, invited speakers and guests will highlight how through the use of various support systems or media platforms, countries can inform the global community on their gastronomic traditions and tourism industry. These two sectors have a tremendous impact on a country’s national and international projection, and can become a powerful tourism tool.
“GastroComunica” is specifically directed to media experts and journalists, as well as representatives from the hotel, restaurant, tourism and gastronomic sectors, chefs and gastronomic and tourism sector students.
On Thursday, June 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. various conferences and panels will take place. The event’s agenda will also include three specific themes, a round table, and a special panel discussion on these two important sectors. The themes covered will be in the following areas: role of the media to disseminate the concept of gastronomic tourism; Branding, online platforms and gastronomy; and institutionality and gastronomy. The round table discussion will concentrate on the international image of Dominican cuisine thanks to its exposure through various gastronomic platforms.
A special panel discussion will take place on June 27, at 5:30 p.m. on “The Chef as an Ambassador of Dominican Flavors,” headed by Dominican chefs Esperanza Lithgow and Luigi Puello.
Important representatives from the Dominican gastronomic industry are scheduled to participate in the two-day event, including Reynaldo Caminero, editor of the magazine Bohío News; Lady Reyes, editor of morning daily El Día, and Evelyn Betancourt, editor of the local magazine Santo Domingo Times. Also, Miguel Calzada, president of the television channel Caribbean Traveling Network, Salvador Batista and Gary de Arriba will discuss the importance of the audiovisual content of these two sectors.
The creation of graphic and written content for social media outlets will also be an important point of discussion. This particular issue will be discussed by Chef and Food Stylist Jacqueline Henríquez and the gastronomic journalist Elaine Hernández, respectively.
Representatives from various institutions are also expected to participate, specifically Luis Ros, president of the Dominican Gastronomic Academy; Bolívar Troncoso, from the Dominican Flavors Foundation; Andrés Marranzini, ASONAHORES Executive Vice President; Rafael Cabrera from the Dominican Association of Restaurants (ADERES) and Mr. Ellis Pérez, one of the country’s most distinguished tourism experts.
“GastroComunica” will also discuss the importance the tourism and gastronomic sector have on the country’s economy through the creation of jobs, promotion of entrepreneurship and how the country can develop a specific brand through its native cuisine in the immediate future.
Organizers explained that from this event specific communications strategies will be introduced that will help promote Dominican gastronomy throughout the world.
