Santo Domingo, June 5, 2019 – The “Galeria 360” Shopping Center, one of Santo Domingo’s trendiest malls, recently opened in the mall’s central lobby its sixth annual 360 Recycling Fair. The fair is held to commemorate World Environment Day, and will run from June 6 through July 1.
During the opening ceremony the Center’s top executives – along with invited guests – highlighted the Fair’s goal to “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.” The organizers have put together a program to help raise awareness among the general public on the importance of preserving the environment. Various sectors of Dominican society, such as academic institutions, private companies, artisans and local artists came together to put together the innovative Fair.
Fernando García, president of “Galería 360,” stated that the shopping center – since its very beginnings – made a solid commitment to work for the preservation of the environment. The mall calls on the general public, companies and civil society in general to also work to raise awareness on this important issue and combat pollution. This time around, the emphasis is to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic products.
“We hope that through these exhibits and works of art the message of responsible consumerism, in favor of the conservation of our natural resources, will come through It is our wish that each one of us will be able to identify creative ways in which we can reduce the volume of garbage that we produce, and that we become individuals who can make a difference in our homes and work place, promoting the 3R’s,” explained Mr. García.
Accompanying Fernando García in the opening event were Anllury Collado, Marketing Director; Gibel Orsini, director of the RD VERDE magazine; Ginny Heinsen, Director of the 3R’s Program for the Agricultural and Forestry Center (CEDAF); and Omar Ramirez, Environmental Advisor to the country’s Executive Office.
“Recycle 360” is also supported by local schools, university foundations, art schools, the magazine “RD Verde,” the CEDAF, Banco Popular, Edesur, Green Love, Marketing Ilustraciones, Fundación Tropigas, the Puntacana Group Foundation, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and various artists.
“Galería 360” celebrates this important activity every year as part of its social responsibility program and internal practices in favor of the environment. The popular mall manages a collection center for solid waste products such as paper, newspapers, cans, foam, plastic and cardboard products. Individuals may deposit these products at the mall in order to be recycled.
World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide on June 5th of each year. This year’s motto is “”Beat Plastic Pollution.”
