Santo Domingo, October 18, 2018 – A significant number of artisans from the Cibao region – the country’s heartland – will exhibit their arts and crafts this weekend during “Expo Cultura 2018,” to be held in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. The fair will open on Friday, October 19, and close Sunday evening with a concert that will feature top musicians and music groups from the region.
Artisans from the 10 provinces that make up the Cibao region – including the north coast provinces of Puerto Plata and Samaná, and Santiago, the country’s second largest city -will sell their beautiful and unique Dominican products at true fair prices.
“Expo Cultura 2018” is organized by the Ministry of Culture to promote the country’s arts and crafts, encourage cultural projects, and help the artisans channel their products to the overall population, explained Dominican Minister of Culture Eduardo Selman.
The fair opens on Friday, October 19, at 10 a.m., at “Plaza de España,” the beautiful town square that symbolizes Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. The fair will also include other activities, including Dominican food stands, musical presentations, conferences, folk dancing and a special exhibition of documentaries, all related to the Cibao region.
Artisans will exhibit their beautiful products with wood, metals, recycled materials, textiles, jewelry and paper-based products. Also, articles made with tiles, petrified stone, and clay.
The fair will remain open until 10:00 p.m. It will close on Sunday with a gala musical concert featuring popular musicians Fefita la Grande, Francisco Ulloa and José Peña Suazo.
