Santo Domingo, July 23, 2019 – On July 18 the organizers of the XIV International Children’s Film Festival (FICI) announced that the annual event will feature more than 25 films and short documentaries that will be exhibited from July 25-31. The films will be exhibited in various theaters in Santo Domingo and Santiago, the country’s second largest city.
The popular movie theaters situated in Agora Mall, Sambil shopping center and Occidental Mall, in Santo Domingo, and Terra Mall in Santiago, will feature all films participating in the Festival.
The film “Colours,” directed by Luis Cepeda, will formally open the XIVth Festival, a program sponsored by the Office of the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Margarita Cedeño through the Children and Youth Library of the D.R. (BIJRD) to promote educational entertainment as well as encourage children to enjoy and become familiar with the film industry.
During the entire week the Festival program will include fun movies and short documentaries that will encourage human values and help form tolerant and well-informed viewers.
As special guest, Festival organizers have invited Carlos Céspedes, director of the Children and Youth Audiovisual Festival of Venezuela (FICI).
This year the following movies will be exhibited: Corriendo como el viento (China); El libro de Lila (Colombia); Ana y Bruno (Mexico); Colours, Lo que siento por ti; Misión estrella; Lotoman and Tubérculo Gourmet (Dominican Republic); Detrás de la puerta azul (Poland); Harvie y el museo mágico (Czech Republic); Anka and The Mystery of Green Hill (Croatia).
From Germany: La reina de Niendorf; El niño que vendió su risa; Amelie Rennt y Wendy; Spiderman: un nuevo universo (United States). Also, a series of short documentaries from Cuba, such as Crecer; El día que el mar llegó hasta Bento; Los hombres y las guerras y Verónica y yo. Also, La niña y las estrellas (Nicaragua) and Un paraíso en el mundo (Venezuela).
At the same time, the Children and Youth Library will also carry out an ample information program that includes film workshops and special presentations headed by actors and filmmakers Katherine Montes, Carlos Céspedes and Miguel Fernández Alfaro.
As is the annual tradition, the jury will consist of children who are participating in the Library’s film workshop. After participating in an intensive film appreciation workshop, headed by Professor Alfredo Castera, they will be responsible for choosing the film that will receive the award “Margarita de Oro.”
At the end of the Festival the best productions that participated in the Third Short Film Contest of the Venezuelan Film Institute, with participants ranging in ages from 18-13, will be distinguished with awards. The projects presented include film contents that include love, peace, tolerance, dialogue, justice, freedom, liberty and solidarity, among others.
The FICI is a cultural activity directed at children who come from low-income households. The program allows these children to become involved and aware of the film industry.
Educational Program
From July 22 to 26 the Dominican General Film Directorate (DGCINE) will sponsor the workshop “Let’s Play Acting,” headed by renowned acting coach Katherine Montes. The workshop will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Library.
On Friday, July 26, beginning at 2:00 p.m. the Media and Infancy Seminar, taught by Carlos Céspedes, executive director of the FICI, from Venezuela. The seminar will conclude on Saturday, July 27. The hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Library’s Auditorium.
Finally, on July 29, at 6:00 p.m., acting coaches Katherine Montes and Miguel Fernández will deliver a special presentation titled “My Child Wants to be an Actor.”
