Santo Domingo, July 6, 2019 – On July 3 the “Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra” – (PUCMM) – one of the country’s most prestigious universities, held a press conference in Santo Domingo’s centrally located Novo Centro building, to announce that this year’s ‘The Shortest Week” festival will be held between July 22-26 at the university.
“The Shortest Week” will be held at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Campus in Santo Domingo where more than 40 audiovisual productions, made by students from the School of Communication, will be featured.
From September 2018 to June 2019 students from the schools of Audiovisual Communications, Cinema Art and Corporate Communication produced 14 documentaries, 18 shorts and five educational campaigns. The students were guided by professors from each specific area. Five shorts produced at DePaul University, in Chicago, have also been included in the festivals.
The issue of social inclusion among young adults is this year’s central theme. The subject matter was included due to the importance of young adults in the global social agenda. The shorts will focus on the “Agenda 2030,” sponsored by the U.N. General Assembly for Sustainable Development. The Agenda is an action plan that promotes the well-being of individuals, the planet and encourages prosperity. It also hopes to strengthen peace initiatives and access to justice.
Social inclusion and youth is the main focus of “The Shortest Week.” This initiative will allow students from PUCMM University’s schools of Communication to have a better understanding of the U.N. Agenda and its overall goals.
Students will present not only their projects but will also have the opportunity to propose solutions to some of the most important issues included in the Agenda.
The head of the university’s School of Communication, publicist and film producer Alfredo Capellán, also explained that the audiovisual projects will help promote sustainable projects, as proposed by the Agenda 2030.
As in the last six annual “The Shortest Week” festivals, the Dominican Republic’s General Film Directorate (DGCINE) will present awards to the best audiovisuals. The following Dominican companies are sponsoring the event: Caribbean Cinemas, Asociación Popular de Ahorros y Préstamos, Banco Popular, Banco de Reservas, Cervecería Nacional Dominicana (CND), Grupo Ramos, Producciones Cuatro Patas, Aerodom, Café Santo Domingo and Planeta Azul.
