Amateur Golfers Malespín and Félix Win in Exciting Playoff in Third Golf Channel AM Tour DR

Santo Domingo, April 17, 2018 – The Golf Channel AM Tour Dominican Republic recently celebrated its third tour in the Cana Bay Golf Course, at the impressive Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana. Eighty-seven players competed in nine flight divisions, all grouped by skill level or age.  In this particular tournament, there were five regular and four senior categories.

As is the custom with the AM Tour tournament, players began their game through holes 1 and 10.  All expressed their enthusiasm in playing in the challenging course, designed by Jack Nicklaus.

In this particular tournament the players in two designated categories had to decide the championship through an exciting playoff in Cana Bay’s hole 18.  The first to participate in the playoff (both tied at 81) were Marcos Malespín and Juan Isidro García, competing in the Senior Hogan Flight.  Marcos Malespín won the match with a 147 yard approach to the flag stick.

Other players who also participated in a playoff in the Senior category were Sandy Félix and Luis Miniño (both tied at 94).  Félix won after battling two holes. Other winners in similar categories were Rafael Encarnación (90 in the Senior Jones Flight) and Soimiro Fernández (94 in the Senior Snead Flight).

In the regular categories the best players were Sigfrido Pared (77, Championship Flight) and Pedro Peña (77, Palmer Flight).  Luis Osvaldo Trinidad won the Hogan Flight category (79), Johnny Ballista won in the Sarazen category (88), and Arístides Fernández won in the Jones category (88).

All winners received their respective trophies, as well as a box of Srixon golf balls – courtesy of LEXUS – a box of “La Aurora” cigars, and the purse accumulated in their respective categories.

At the same time, all players received tournament points and a percentage of the accumulated purse.

As is the norm in this particular tournament, all players enjoyed the various food and drink stations situated along the golf course, and cigars.

The next tour will be held on May 26 at the Punta Blanca Golf and Beach Club, in Punta Cana.
