More than 1,500 Runners Participated in the 7th Annual Carrefour 10K Marathon

Santo Domingo, February 19. 2020 – More than 1,500 enthusiastic runners
participated in the 7th Annual Carrefour 10K marathon, organized by the French-
based company.
The marathon was a charity event celebrated to support the Foundation “Friends
Against Children’s Cancer” (Facci). The marathon is part of the company’s active
social entrepreneurial program. The activity began at 7:00 a.m., on Sunday,
February 23, leaving the Downtown Center Mall – in the heart of the capital city –
and ending in the nearby “Mirador del Sur” Park, situated five kilometers from the
starting point.
As in previous years, the event was organized under a certified route, with the digital
registry of the running time of the participants, t-shirts for each runner, medals,
awards from the sponsors, hydration stops every 2.5 kilometers, among other
benefits. Last year, the organizers added new categories: participants 70 years and
older could also participate. This made the marathon an even more inclusive
activity.
Aside from the traditional Female and Male Overall, other categories included age
groups that went from 29 and under; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59 and 60-69 years of age.
First place winners received awards valued at RD$3,000, RD$2,200 and
RD$1,500, respectively. The big attraction will be a raffle where the big prize will
be a round-trip ticket to Paris on Air Caraibes, for one person.
