Santo Domingo, August 29, 2019 – Santo Domingo´s National Theater recently celebrated its 46th year anniversary with a historic lyrical gala event. World famous Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas and distinguished Dominican soprano Nathalie Peña Comas delighted the audience that attended the event.
Both artists were accompanied by the country´s most prestigious musical organization, the National Symphony Orchestra, directed by Maestro José Antonio Molina.
The program was a special treat for opera lovers, as well as for those who appreciate classical music in general. The public thoroughly enjoyed the performance of tenor Ramón Vargas who, since he began his successful musical career in his native Mexico, was distinguished by a powerful and yet natural voice.
Equally, Dominican soprano Nathalie Peña Comas has appeared in Dominican and international musical scenarios, conquering lovers of fine music wherever she goes.
The musical program included Mozart´s E Susanna non bien! Dove Sono (Contessa), from Le Nozze di Figaro; ll Mio (Don Ottavio), from Don Giovanni.
Also, Donizetti´s Caro elisir! Sei mio!”; La rà, la rà, la lera!… Esulti pur la Barbara (Nemorino and Andina), from L’elisir d’amore and Una furtiva lagrima; Rossini´s Overture from La Gazza Ladra. Also from Donizetti: Una furtiva làgrima, Nemorino, L’elisir d’amore. The first half of the program closed with Puccini´s Quando m’en vo.
Minister of Culture Eduardo Selman highlighted the extraordinary performance of Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas and Dominican soprano Nathalie Peña Comas, whose successful presentations abroad have made the Dominican Republic proud. Both were accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by José Antonio Molina.
At the same time, he thanked the support provided by public and private institutions that made the gala event possible, such as the country´s Central Bank, the Friends of the National Theater Foundation, Banco de Reservas, the Ministry of Finance, and the Corripio Communications Group.
