Juan Marichal is ranked number 97 among the top 1,000 Major League players

According to a compilation by Derek Gentile in “Baseball Best 1,000” (2004) Juan Marichal, the only Dominican in Cooperstown Hall of Fame, is ranked number 97 among the best 1,000 players of the Major Leagues. Moreover, according to the same publication the best ten ball players who have challenged the diamonds of the Major Leagues are: Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Joshua Gibson, Stan Musial and Joe Dimaggio. Among the most renowned Latin players, the best ranked player is the Puerto Rican Roberto Clemente (64), the second is the Panamanian Rod Carew (72) and the third is Juan Marichal.

On the other hand, according to Gentile’s selection, the right pitcher Pedro Martinez is ranked 181. Other Dominicans mentioned in the report are César Cedeño (207), Sammy Sosa (241), Tony Fernández (293), Pedro Guerrero (321), Tony Peña (378), Julio Franco (435), Ricardo Carty (467) and Felipe Rojas Alou (485), among others.
