UNAPEC Launches Mariano Lebrón Saviñón´s Book The APEC University (UNAPEC) launched Mariano Lebrón Saviñón´s “You Don´t Say and Other Linguistics Topics” (“Usted no lo diga y otros temas de lingüística”) in which the author summarizes the history of the Spanish language. The book includes an alphabetical list of recommendations and examples of correct word usage. This language journey is illustrated with an abundance of cultural references which include, in some cases, etymology and variable semantics. The book launching ceremony, held in the José María Bonetti Burgos APEC Hall, was presided over by Mario Lebrón, son of Mariano Lebrón Saviñón, the book´s author and UNAPEC´s Rector, Justo Pedro Castellanos The book goes back to The Song of El Cid and takes the readers on a trip through a series of eventful journeys and difficulties encountered when Latin arrived to Iberian Peninsula. The Latin language interacted with vernacular dialects, transformed into a language of transition, then romance then finally Spanish. The narration does not take a stand on which of these modes of expression is the right one but rather presents a series of reasoned structures that place the speaker in what can only be called a situation of communication. This language journey is illustrated with an abundance of cultural references which include, in some cases, etymology and variable semantics. Mariano Lebrón Saviñón, an internationally renowned intellectual, is the founder and prominent member of one of the most important national literary movements, the Surprised Poetry (Poesía Sorprendida). He is a studious lover of Dominican culture and medical doctor by profession. The book contains 311 pages. One thousand copies have been printed for its first edition.
