President Leonel Fernández Will Attend the Opening of the UN General Assembly

President Fernández will be accompanied by his wife, First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández at the annual reception being hosted by US President George W. Bush at the Waldorf Astoria, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

On Tuesday morning at 7 a .m., President Fernández will attend a welcome breakfast being offered to visiting statesmen and women by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. At 9 a .m. they will attend the opening of the General Assembly.

Later he will meet with executives from the Proyecto Film Company, a Scott, Mednik, & Morgan Stanley enterprise. The meeting will be held in the company´s offices where the President will present a film project to them.

At 7 p.m. on the same day, Tuesday, Fernándtez will attend a dinner being hosted by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon for visiting heads of States, delegations and governments. The dinner will take place in UN headquarters.

On Wednesday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m., President Fernández will address the UN General Assembly.

On the same day, he will meet with US President George W. Bush and other heads of states who are signatories to treaties such as the DR-CAFTA treaty. Following the meeting, a press conference for the international media will be held at the Hotel Palace.

On Thursday the 25th at 9 a .m., the President will participate in a high-level meeting at UN headquarters. The meeting was called by the UN Secretary General to analyze the advances and commitments carried out to date regarding the Millennium Objectives.

On Friday, September 26, President Fernández will travel to Providence, Rhode Island where he will visit the library at Brown University and have lunch the university dean. He will also visit Senator Juan Pichardo.

On Saturday, the President will be in Boston where, beginning at 11:00 a.m., he will visit Harvard University´s School of Education and library. He will also meet with Dr. Celestus Juma. Following that meeting, he will return from Boston to the Dominican Republic on Saturday night.

First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández will be accompanying the President throughout the trip as will Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso; the President´s Administrative Minister Luis Manuel Bonetti; Press Secretary Rafael Núñez; personal assistant to the President Danilo Pérez; General Belisario Medina, head of the Corps of Military Assistants and Víctor Crispín, Deputy Director of the DNI.
