Frank Jorge Elías Businessman of the Year 2008 in the United States

Frank Jorge Elías, President of Super Channel Caribbean, Dominican View and Super Channel 33 was honored as Businessman of the Year 2008 for his work in business and telecommunications. Mr. Elías received the prize from Latin Pride, a US-based organization that recognizes Latinos living and doing outstanding work in the United States in the area of business, art and commerce.

Jorge Elías, who is also a tourism advisor to the Dominican President´s office, headed the list of winners this year for the work he carried out over the course of the year as the most outstanding Latino in the United States.

According to Santiago Matías, one of the organizers of the prize, Frank Jorge Elías was the first Dominican to introduce a satellite signal which filled the information and entertainment vacuum at the time among the Spanish-speaking community in the United States.

“It is evident that Frank Jorge is a visionary who knew how to fill this need and contribute to the community with the establishment of communication and media which not only opened the doors to information and entertainment but also served as a bridge to provide solidarity when needed as well as a way for Dominicans to stay connected to their roots,” said Matías.

Receiving the prize in the name of his father, Marcos Jorge, current Vice President of Super Channel Caribbean, said this recognition signifies a commitment for the main Dominican TV station in the US to continue developing and improving its outreach and quality so as to benefit the Dominican and Hispanic community that lives and works far from their homeland.

“I look with pride at what many saw as a crazy idea on the part of my father Frank Jorge Elías. His idea, 8 years later, became a unifying and strengthening link connecting each one of us to our roots and our countries,” said Marcos Jorge.

The Latin Pride Awards have recognized well-known figures in the world of business in all of Latin America, whose influence reaches to and from the United States or who carry out their work in the US.

Gustavo Cisnero, Jorge Granados, Amaury Gutiérrez and Emilio Estefan are some of the outstanding Latinos who have received this prize.
