Tourism and Public Works Take on Building Projects to Develop Tourism in Las Terrenas

As promised in a recent meeting with business people, authorities and community representatives of this Northeastern locality, Francisco Javier García, Minister of Tourism, traveled around the area and main communities of Las Terrenas (Samaná) along with the Víctor Díaz Rúa, Minister of Public Works and Communications (SEOPC). Throughout their trip, the government officials looked at what infrastructure work would be required in this emerging tourism area to convert it into a “model” area for tourism development.

Among the work that will be done under the auspices of both ministries is the addition of 19 kilometers of the Sánchez-Las Terrenas highway. This would include road work to repair potholes and the laying of blacktop and road rails along the sides of the highway. They will also undertake asphalt covering on the streets, cleaning the rivers and streams among other things that would have an impact on tourism, emphasizing the importance of improving the quality of life for the inhabitants of Las Terrenas.
