Statistics Office Offers Computer, Statistics and Cartography Courses

With the goal of training workers at the Provinicial Statistics Offices, the second version of “Information Management, Statistics and Cartography Course” was given to those employees interested in learning about collecting, analyzing and presenting data that can be turned into basic information to be used by the government in taking decisions.

“This activity is being carried out within the framework of the Institutional Strengthening and Modernization of ONE which includes, among other aspects, the Strengthening of Provincial Offices

The courses were organized by the Office of National Statistics (ONE) through Joint Management and under the auspices of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF).

The training, given by ONE professionals, was directed at personnel from the Provinicial Statistics Offices and the local Town Halls in order to establish better coordination between them.

“This activity is being carried out within the framework of the Institutional Strengthening and Modernization of ONE which includes, among other aspects, the Strengthening of Provincial Offices as centers of information gathering and dissemination,” said Pablo Tacktuk, Director of the National Statistics Office (ONE).

In terms of dissemination of information, ONE is creating an information gathering system that is available to each of the provinces under name “Provincial Socio-Demographic Profiles.” In this respect, Tactuk said, “It is a small publication that has been widely accepted and welcome. It is being sought by not just the institutions and individuals in the provinces but also by international organizations and institutions – public and private alike.”

The Office of National Statistics is contemplating a Territorial Information System which, among other things, will allow the user to quickly research available information about all the municipalities as well as to apply for an application that would permit them to consult municipal and provincial maps online.
