The Museum of Modern Art is hosting an exhibition of the work of Spanish artist Antoni Miró whose show, “Communication Space,” is a presentation of architectural studies from some of the most important museums in the world.

In his career, Miró has combined a large variety of initiatives, from strictly artistic where he manifests his efficient dedication to each one of the characteristic procedures he follows in his paintings

Museum Director, María Elena Ditrén said Miró is showing his most recent work which illustrates the communicative space of the world´s most important museums with urban landscapes.

In the show´s catalogue, Ditrén affirms that the “coldness of concrete or metallic structures of buildings; to those who oppose their indigenous portraits in which to be human and to suffer desolation are totally involved and they speak to us of the dehumanization process of the cities; and from a painting, from an artist with serious ethical concerns, maybe, just maybe, like so many other artists, for him art is his particular mode of resistance.”

In his career, Miró has combined a large variety of initiatives, from strictly artistic where he manifests his efficient dedication to each one of the characteristic procedures he follows in his paintings, all the way to his tireless attention to the promotion and development of culture. He has shown his work in dozens of individual and group shows.

Miró, whose work is placed within the social realism genre, began as a figurative expressionist as a means to express his interest in social criticism. Toward the end of the 1960s his interest in social issues moved him toward neo-figurativism with a critical message that, in the 70s, was identified with the artistic movement known as the Chronicle of Reality which was part of the contemporary pop-art and realism trends. From those styles he took, as a point of departure, their use of industrial propaganda images and the linguistic codes used by the mass media.

His work can be found in numerous museums and collections around the world. Many bibliographies and studies have been done about his work.

His work has been shown in museums and galleries in France, England, Russia, Italy, Mexico, the United States, Panama, Colombia, Nicaragua, Slovakia, Hungary, Holland, Greece, Cuba, Poland, Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, Denmark, Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, Chile, Romania, Hong Kong, Norway, Estonia, Pakistan, Australia and the Dominican Republic.
