The publications were introduced in an event that took place in the Pedro Mir Cuesta Library and was presided over by Mariano Mella, president of the Dominican Society of Bibliophiles. Also present were historians Sonia Medina, Franklin Franco, Raymundo Gonzalez in addition to Alejandro Ruiz Rodriguez-Demorizi, grandson of Emilio Rodriguez Demorizi.

The 330-page book, “The History of the Haitian Revolution” touches on many themes including the conquest and colonization of Haiti, smugglers, filibusterers and buccaneers, the French colony of Tortuga and the Santo Domingo coast.

Franklin Franco, who wrote the prologue, stressed the importance of knowing more about the history of Haiti and stated that in doing so, relations between the two country will be different. This lack of knowledge has provoked nearly a endless series of consequences that have affected the relations between both countries for many years.

“The Mullata Community, the Socio-Political Case of the Dominican Republic,” 275 pages, delves into the topics of mass corruption and the problems facing minorities.

Sonia Medina Rodriguez pointed out in the prologue of the book that the author places the future’s uncertainty in the disperse nature of the conquerors. As such, she explained that the author rests his theoretical premise on the conceptualization of the harmful or malignant the process of becoming a mulatto; he believes this phenomena is responsible for the current historical evils and those to come in the future.

And finally, the “Historic Relationships of Santo Domingo,” 329 pages, has a great deal of information about Santo Domingo at the end of the 17th century including the geography of Hispaniola Island, the Battle of Limonade, and other events from that period.

The book draws from a selection of 13 documents of extraordinary testimonial value about the colonial period in the Dominican Republic. It offers a general framework of the political, economic and social life in the old colony of Santo Domingo in its first centuries of existence.
