Dominican Republic To Be Headquarters for Miss Spain 2009 The Dominican Republic has been chosen by the Miss Spain organization to be the site of the beauty contest to be held this coming May. Last year the beaches of Boca Chica served as the photographic scene for the Miss Spain 2008 candidates from which Patricia Rodríguez was elected Andrés Cid, the director of the Spanish pageant that brings together some 52 beauty contestants, confirmed that the contest will be held in the National Theater of Santo Domingo with support from the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) and the Globalia Group. For the second consecutive year, the 52 candidates competing for the Miss Spain title will visit Dominican soil just as reigning Miss Spain, Patricia Rodríguez along with the other 51 contenders, did last year. The announcement was made at the Dominican stand of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR-2009) in Madrid in the presence of the Dominican Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García and other representatives of the Dominican tourism sector. Mr. Cid said that negotiations with Spanish as well as Dominican businesses are being finalized. He added that conversations about the changes in television format are already underway which has initiated conversations with Univision and Telemundo which, if they there is interest, could result in the commercialization of the format to any Spanish television chain. Last year the beaches of Boca Chica served as the photographic scene for the Miss Spain 2008 candidates from which Patricia Rodríguez was elected. During their stay in the Dominican Republic, the beauty contestants visited Santo Domingo, especially the colonial area, and were received at the National Palace by Vice President Rafael Alburquerque.
