UNPHU Honors the Winners of the IX International Architecture Biennale The Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University, UNPHU, honored the winners of the university’s IX International Architecture Biennale of Santo Domingo. The Grand Prize of the Biennale was awarded for the “Cofradia Cultural Center’s Holy Spirit of Los Congos de Villamella” by UNPHU Professors and Architects Juan Mubarak and Mauricia Domínguez. The awards were handed out by UNPHU Rector Miguel Fiallo Calderón who was accompanied by the Dean of Architecture, Omar Rancier and Degree Director José Constanzo, both architects. The student winners to be recognized included Rosaura Bisonó Sánchez, Yasmín Castillo, Yaskira Camacho, Yoanna Rodríguez Victoria, Cristina Carolina Mancebo, Jezabel Pimentel and David Andújar Weil. Architects Juan Mubarak and Mauricia Domínguez were also honored. Award winners received prizes for their graded projects and honorable mentions. The José Antonio Caro Álvarez Student Prize was given to Rosaura Bisonó Sánchez for a project called the Interactive Recreation Center for Children. The prize honored the clarity and convincing nature as seen in its presentation and for its ability to capture the lucid spirit that abounds in the inner world of children’s minds and how they function. The jury also highly valued the way the piece related to the urban setting and buildings around it. Simulation of Smooth Space by Castillo and Yaskira Camacho was awarded for it significant design process and clarity from the analytical level to the project design. Honorable mentions included: Bio-Habitable Space by Yoanna Rodríguez Victoria; The Pliege by Cristina Carolina Mancebo; The Study Center for Criminology by Jezabel Pimentel and the Restructuring of Las Americas International Airport by David Andújar Weil. The Grand Prize of the Biennale was awarded for the “Cofradia Cultural Center’s Holy Spirit of Los Congos de Villamella” by UNPHU Professors and Architects Juan Mubarak and Mauricia Domínguez. The jury was made up of professionals from Spain, Puerto Rico, Germany and the Dominican Republic.
