Taiwanese Ambassador Visits Administrator of Low Cost Food Centers Taiwanese Ambassador Isaac Tsai paid a courtesy visit to Nicolás Calderón, the General Administrator of the Dominican Government’s Low Cost Food Centers, where he exchanged impressions on social policies being carried out by the Dominican Government to help the country’s poor. The Dominican Republic receives Taiwanese cooperation in the form of agricultural projects, beekeeping and education, among other things. Nicolás Calderón said the Taiwanese diplomat’s visit was a high honor in that it demonstrates an interest and social sensitivity for the service being rendered by the Low Cost Food Centers of the Dominican Government to the large segment of the needy population who live in marginalized neighborhoods and communities throughout the country. Mr. Calderón explained to the Taiwanese mission how the food centers function and operate on a national level. He said the wide reach of their social programs responds to directives laid out by the Executive Office which has mandated it to target people who are really in need of help and a supportive hand from the government of President Leonel Fernández Reyna. Taiwanese Ambassador Isaac Tsai said he visited the headquarters of the Dominican Government’s Low Cost Food Centers to explore the possibility of offering some type of collaboration so that both nations can jointly carry out social programs to help the poor. The Dominican Republic receives Taiwanese cooperation in the form of agricultural projects, beekeeping and education, among other things. Ambassador Tsai visited the food center office with Mrs. Gionguey Sang, President of the Dominican-Chinese Chamber of Culture and Commerce and Estela Sang, Director for International Affairs for the Dominican-Chinese Chamber who also went with Nicolás Calderón to the installations of the central office in the Los Mina sector of Santo Domingo East.
