Environment Ministry Swears In Business People in the Cabo Cabrón National Park and the Botanic Gardens

Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, swore in business people including José Miguel González Cuadra as Director General of the Cabo Cabrón National Park in the province of Samaná, and Ivelisse García as Deputy Director of the National Botanic Garden.

“the fact that these business people have accepted to dedicate their free time to be public servants is an exercise of citizen and social responsibility.”

The designation of the new functionaries took place as part of a strategy to get business people, who have been successful in the private sector, to make a commitment to conservation and innovation in the management of protected areas, carrying over their experience in the private sector to be used in a public arena.

Mr. Fernández Mirabal said “the fact that these business people have accepted to dedicate their free time to be public servants is an exercise of citizen and social responsibility.”

Mr. González Cuadra is President of the National Cost Center (CCN), one of the country’s main groups with some five retail chains. He affirmed that his priority will be the care and protection of the area with the idea of later exploring its potential to develop tourism.

Ivelisse García, President of Viveros Plantas Tropicales, has vast experience in the area of decoration and production of these types of species. She said she will apply her experience in landscaping and will concentrate on educational work with children.

The first business person to be sworn-in was Manuel Estrella, President of the Estrella Steel Company and Vice President of Caribbean Multimedia. On Saturday, he assumed the position of director of the José de Jesús Jiménez Almonte monument, also known as the Pico Diego of Ocampo.

The Cabo Cabrón National Park, located in the extreme north of the Sierra of Samaná has the most spectacular cliffs in the country, reaching as high as 600 metros.
