On Tuesday, Dominican President Leonel Fernández, received Letters of Credential from five new ambassadors to the country. In a solemn ceremony, the President accepted the new foreign diplomats from Chile, Colombia, Portugal, Cabo Verde and Australia. President Fernández was accompanied by his Vice President Rafael Alburquerque and Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso.

Manuel Enrique Hinojosa Muñoz is the new Ambassador from Chile and Mario Montoya Uribe from Colombia is taking up the post.


Mr. Hinojosa Muñoz has held important diplomatic posts for his nation and has received numerous national awards for his 32 years of service, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.


General Mario Montoya Uribe has carried out specialized military positions that include advanced course studies in Fort Knox, USA. His ample experience in the Colombian Army includes serving as a Commandant from 2006 to 2008.


Francisco Domingos García Falcao is the new Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary from the Republic of Portugal. Ms. Crispina Gómez will represent her country, Cabo Verde, in the Dominican Republic along with Ms. Katrina Cooper from Australia.


Mr. García Falcao holds a degree in Law from the University of Coimbra and a degree from the International Institute of Public Administration of Paris. In addition, he has held various diplomatic posts for his country.


Ambassador Crispina Gómez holds a PhD. in Social Sciences from the University of Havana, Cuba. She is professionally linked to the promotion of education and culture. She has held the post of Vice President of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde and was formerly President of the Special Commission for Immigrant Affairs in her country.


Katrina Cooper, the new Ambassador from Australia in the DR, is a career diplomat in the Office of Foreign and Commercial Relations of Australia. She began her international career in the Canada, Latin America and Caribbean Section of the Office of Foreign and Commercial Relations of her country from 1993-1994.


The event of accepting the Letters of Credential from the new diplomats began at 11:00 a.m. in the Ambassadors Hall on the second level of the National Palace. The ceremony ended and hour later.
