President Fernández Invites Hillary Clinton for Dinner

Dominican President Leonel Fernández, received US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at a special dinner at the National Palace in the Dining Room on the third floor.  

Clinton had a very full schedule and many activities to attend during her 24-hour visit to the DR, among which was a meeting with Dominican President Fernández.  

Hillary Clinton arrived in the Dominican Republic on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. at the Las Americas International Airport then went to the National Palace at 8:57 p.m.

Upon her arrival at the National Palace, Mrs. Clinton was received by an official commission made up of Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, Secretary to the President, César Pina Toribio; Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Juan Temístocles Montás; Administrative Secretary, Luis Manuel Bonetti, and the Protocol Staff of the Government House, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Clinton had a very full schedule and many activities to attend during her 24-hour visit to the DR, among which was a meeting with Dominican President Fernández.  

In addition to President Fernández and First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, others attending the dinner included Dominican Vice President Rafael Alburquerque and members of the official commission who received Clinton at the Government House. People from the world of business and entertainment were also present: Alfonso Fanjul, Frank Rainieri, Oscar de la Renta, José Miguel Bonetti, Julio Iglesias, Gustavo Cisneros and baseball player Sammy Sosa.

Clinton’s delegation included Thomas Shannon, Deputy Secretary for Western Hemispheric Affairs; Rolan Bullen, Business Attaché at the US Embassy in the Dominican Republic; Cheryl Mills, Chief of Staff for the Secretary; Anne Marie Slaughter, Director of the Office of Planning and Policy and Huma Abedin, deputy chief of Ms. Clinton’s Cabinet.  

On Friday at 9:50 a.m., a meeting was held between the Dominican President and the US Secretary of State at the President’s office.
