Government Installs Canteen in Samaná

The government has finished installing the first and only productive Economic Canteen with a capacity to make 4,000 meals daily, which will feed the poorest families in this sector of the country.

The new canteen is located in the populous area known as “El Millón” in the city. It will benefit dozens of communities including Limón, Sánchez and other nearby villages.

The inauguration of the food sales center was headed by the General Administrator of the State Economic Canteens, Nicolás Calderón, who was accompanied by the governor of the province and other representative authorities and personalities from the region.

Nicolás Calderón said the investment for the new installation was in excess of 350 million pesos which covered the remodeling and installation of modern kitchen and cooking equipment in a building rented by the Institution of Social Assistance with the goal of establishing the indispensable requirements for fulfilling the nutritional demands and needs of the population.

The new canteen is located in the populous area known as “El Millón” in the city. It will benefit dozens of communities including Limón, Sánchez and other nearby villages.

Calderón noted that with this building, the Administration of State Economic Canteens if fulfilling a promise made by President Leonel Fernández during the Popular Dialogues wherein he promised to install a producer canteen in this province, at the request of its inhabitants.

The building where the new canteen is to function was found to be suitable after taking into account the labor and needs required for cooking and distributing food in an area that had never before had such a service. The construction and building of the canteen took around 30 days.
