Bávaro Tourism Sector Receives Support with New Employment Services As part of Workers Month, the Ministry of Labor (SET in Spanish) inaugurated a Territorial Employment Office and a local representation office in the Altagracia province of Bávaro, which will offer services to the workers and employers of this tourism area. The OTE will work with a special emphasis on facilitating the management of efficient and dynamic workers at the tourism and commercial businesses and branches that are being set up in the area. With the opening of these offices, SET seeks to raise its institutional capacity to link labor and demand needs in the area by improving the coordination of occupational orientation services. SET’s recently inaugurated local representation office in Bávaro will allow workers in the tourism sector and other labor areas to receive all the services and assistance provided by the institution without having to travel to the municipality in Higuey. The opening of the offices were headed by Max Puig, Minister of Labor, in the presence of the provincial Governor, Luis Rafael Cedeño; Virgilio Cedano, Deputy Minister of Tourism; Ismael Peña and Pedro Rojas Morrillo, Deputy Ministers of Labor with an office in Higuey; Luz Mery Ruiz, Director General of Labor, Janet Guerrero, of the Hotel Association of Bávaro; Fiscal Prosecutor Lucas Pérez José and José Luis Polanco, Coordinator of the Youth and Employment Program. The Territorial Employment Offices (OTEs in Spanish) will attempt to define and publicize the offer and demand of work and to provide various modalities for services, orientation and labor mediation which will include the creation of an electronic employment service at www.empleateya.net. They will also hold job fairs in the various communities. Bávaro is in the eastern region of the country and is a leading tourism area which generates a great deal of employment. The OTE will work with a special emphasis on facilitating the management of efficient and dynamic workers at the tourism and commercial businesses and branches that are being set up in the area. They will also set up centers for technical and university training so that graduates can take advantage of the orientation services in their search for employment. Following the launch of the National Employment Service (SENAE) and the inauguration of the Electronic Employment Service in October 2007, an increase in the services capacity was established as a national model. The OTE of Bávaro is located on España Avenue, Friusa Highway in the Tronco Plaza, 2nd Floor. In the coming months, other offices will be opened that will be located in the INFOTEP offices in the cities of Santiago and La Romana; in Azua, La Vega, the National District, in Santo Domingo West and other localities around the country.
