President Fernández Arrives in Israel Dominican President Fernández arrived on Sunday in Tel Aviv to begin a tight schedule of activities which includes meeting with the country’s President, Shimon Peres. He received explanations about the holy sites of this historical city then touched one of the stones that lies in the area where Jesus Christ was crucified. The President, who arrived with his team at Ben Gurion International Airport at 4:30 p.m. (Israeli time), was greeted by Zihow Hadcock, Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Isaac Eldan, Chief of Protocol. The President’s delegation was also received by the Dominican Ambassador in Israel, Alexander de la Rosa and the Israeli Ambassador to the DR, Amos Radian, among other professionals, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Immediately the President was taken to Jerusalem where, along with authorities, he visited the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Wailing Wall. He received explanations about the holy sites of this historical city then touched one of the stones that lies in the area where Jesus Christ was crucified. He also toured the area around the ancient temple of Jerusalem that remains in the hands of the Israeli people. On Monday morning, President Fernández will be received by Israeli President Shimon Perez at the government office of this Middle Eastern nation. Both leaders are expected to sign important bilateral agreements that will stimulate relations between the two countries. Once he concludes his visit to Israel, the Dominican President and his team will travel to Cairo, Egypt to participate in the July 15th to 17th Summit of the Non-Aligned Countries (NOAL).
