Young Dominican Wins a Scholarship to Prestigious Harvard University Dominican Pamela Michelle Rosario Pérez won a full scholarship to attend Harvard University in recognition of her leadership qualities and the extraordinary grades obtained during her high school years. She will receive a sum of $60,000 per year. She was chosen among more than 29,000 outstanding candidates from around the world. Fitzsimmons, Harvard’s Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, the Admissions Committee was very careful in selecting young people with exceptional characteristics that included unusually high academic achievement as well as interesting extracurricular activities. They were convinced that Pamela Rosario will make important contributions during her years at the university and beyond. Pamela Michelle is the daughter of journalist Julie Pérez Terrero and former Big League and Águilas Cibaeña pitcher, Melvin Rosario. Pamela studied at Colegio Restauración del Ensanche Kennedy School in Santo Domingo where she was born. She intends to study Neurobiology with a specialization in Psychiatric Forensics at Harvard. At the age of seven, while living in Miami, she participated in the Olé Fair in which children wrote and and illustrated a book. She won second prize in that contest. In 2000, she won first place in the International French contest, “Grand Concours” and in 2009 she won first prize in the same contest in New Jersey. Pamela was also offered a scholarship to Brown University, located in Rhode Island. Pamela plays violin and also enjoys canoeing. As the number one student in terms of grade point average in the Egg Harbor Township School District, Pamela Rosario gave the commencement speech in both Spanish and English for the school’s 500 students. “Dare to be different and don’t follow the crowds. You might think that dreams only come true in soap operas or fairy tales but do your work, try to highlight your own integrity, diligence and dedication and you will see that God will reward you for your efforts,” said Pamela at the graduation. | ||
