Civil Aviation Board Approves 805 New Charter Flights To and From the Dominican Republic


The Civil Aviation Board approved 805 charter passenger and cargo flights for various airlines that fly to and from the Dominican Republic.


Mr. Ariza, who is also the alternate representative to the OACI and its council, explained how approval for the new flights was reached at the JAC meeting. He added that these efforts demonstrate the interest President Leonel Fernández has in consolidating and maintaining the development of civil aviation in the Dominican Republic as a main contribution to the country’s tourism industry.


Luis Paulino Rodríguez Ariza, president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC in Spanish), announced the approval of permission for the operation of the flights. The decision was taken in accordance with Law 491-06 at the recent JAC session, held on September 2, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Mr. Ariza, who is also the alternate representative to the OACI and its council, explained how approval for the new flights was reached at the JAC meeting. He added that these efforts demonstrate the interest President Leonel Fernández has in consolidating and maintaining the development of civil aviation in the Dominican Republic as a main contribution to the country’s tourism industry.

The JAC approved 566 flights of the Canada’s Canjet Airlines which will cover the following routes: Ottawa/Punta Cana/Ottawa, Halifax/Punta Cana/ST. John, St. John/Punta Cana/Halifax, Ottawa/Punta Cana/Montreal, Montreal/Punta/Ottawa, Montreal/Punta
Cana/Montreal, Quebec/Punta Cana/Quebec, among others.

During the meeting, the JAC also authorized 56 charter flights for the Haitian airline, Tortug Air to operate the Porto Prince /El Higüero/ Porto Prince route starting September 3rd until September 30th.

The other airlines that benefited from this authorization of permits includes LIVINGSTON, S.P.A., with 3 flights for the Milan/La Romana /Havana/Milan route starting from September 14 through the 28 and Transaero Airlines, with 54 flights that will cover the Moscow/Punta Cana/Moscow route between October 28 through April 28, 2010 and 38 flights that will service Saint Petersburg/Punta Cana/Saint Petersburg from November 3 to March 19, 2010.

Meanwhile, 19 Finnair OYJ flights were approved for the Helsinki/Halifax/Puerto Plata and vice-versa as well as Helsinki/Halifax/Puerto Plata/Helsinki; Helsinki/Puerto Plata/Halifax/Helsinki, which will take place between September 4-30.

Also, 28 ARROW CARGO flights were approved to cover the following routes: Miami/Santo Domingo/Miami; San Juan
P.R./Santo Domingo/Miami; and San Juan P.R./Santo
Domingo/Miami, from September 4-30.

EROGAL, S.A. was approved for 3 flights to be carried out between September 3-11, 2009 for the following routes:
Quito/Guayaquil/Punta Cana/Guayaquil/Quito; Quito/Punta Cana/Guayaquil/Quito.

At the September 2nd session, the Civil Aviation Board approved a decision to openly review a request made by American Eagle, with results to be announced at the next meeting, for permission to operate the following routes:
San Juan, P.R./Santo Domingo/ Porto Prince, Haiti/ Santo Domingo/ Porto Prince and San Juan, P.R./Santiago, D.R./ Porto Prince, Haiti and vice versa.
