New Prague- Dominican Republic Flights

The growth of tourism from Eastern Europe to the Dominican Republic has resulted in the incorporation of new flights between Prague and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The Czech Travel Service is running the weekly flight on an A310-300 with a 285 passenger capacity.

Ms. Boasier pointed out that on October 24 the first Prague-Punta Cana flight was inaugurated through Czech Airlines which is offering flights every ten days throughout the winter.

Boasier praised the efforts of Dominican Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García for having developed an aggressive tourism promotion program in Prague beginning with the opening of the OPT and efforts being made to position the DR as a main vacation market for Eastern Europe. “We are following the lead of Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García who has drawn up comprehensive plans to go forward, as such all the seats on this first flight have been sold and although the flights are spread out until May 2010, if the demand keeps up the flights could possibly be continued,” she said.

In addition, she indicated that tour operators Cedok, Siam Travel, Eso Tours and Fischer in collaboration with the OPT are in charge of the commercial operations for this flight. The OPT in Prague keeps the tourism market informed and updated about offers to the Dominican Republic as well as offering tourism training seminars.

The Dominican Tourism Minister launched a robust promotion campaign that seeks to use the specialized travel media, the Internet and intends to distribute pamphlets through the regular press outlets, in addition to other activities.
