Taiwan Donates $66,000 for Youth Symphony Orchestra in San Pedro de Macorís Dominican Vice President Rafael Alburquerque greeted in his office the Taiwanese Ambassador, Isaac Tsai, who is donating $66,429 to the Youth Symphony Orchestra of San Pedro de Macorís to be used to purchase musical instruments. “I would like to announce that the first public recital of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of San Pedro de Macorís will be performed for the Embassy of Taiwan as a way of saying thank you for the support they are offering with this donation which provides our children another option to grow and develop with culture and healthy values,” Mr. Alburquerque noted that the Embassy of the Republic of Taiwan in the Dominican Republic was responding to a request for help from the San Pedro de Macorís Foundation, Inc. which supports the youth orchestra comprised of children from the province, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. The Taiwanese Ambassador indicated that collaboration from his country is meant to provide support for the social programs being carried out by Vice President Alburquerque to promote the development of fine arts and healthy development of the nation’s young people. Carlos Juan Musa, president of the San Pedro de Macorís Foundation, thanked the Taiwanese authorities for the support in the name of the community. “The donation will fulfill the dreams of dozens of young people and children in San Pedro de Macorís to be able to continue their study of the art of music.” “I would like to announce that the first public recital of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of San Pedro de Macorís will be performed for the Embassy of Taiwan as a way of saying thank you for the support they are offering with this donation which provides our children another option to grow and develop with culture and healthy values,” said Mr. Musa. Darwin Aquino, Youth Symphony Orchestra Director, said the donation will contribute to the social and educational development of the children of San Pedro de Macorís, especially the Julio de Windt band, named after the former conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra. “The equipment we will acquire with this donation includes a tuba, French horn, cello, bass and others, all of which the Youth Symphony Orchestra needed to put on proper musical and artistic productions,” he said. Also present at the activity was the Vice President’s wife, Marta Montes de Oca de Alburquerque, native of Sultana del Este, and Oscar Alberti, Executive Director of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of San Pedro de Macorís.
