CAASD Joins Other Organizations to Cooperate in Haiti Recovery Operation The Corporation of Aqueduct and Sewers of Santo Domingo (CAASD in Spanish) in the Dominican Republic, joined the other recovery programs underway to lend help to Haiti, as ordered by President Leonel Fernández. The CAASD will send water tankers with the capacity of transporting thousands of gallons of water per day. Per trip, through the border town of Jimaní, the CAASD tankers have the capacity of hauling and delivering more than 21,000 gallons of water. They can also go a long distance to do so. This information was released by Ramón Rivas, CAASD Director, who explained that these water tankers will stay in Haiti to help out for as long as is necessary to confront the shortages and damage to the supply and storage systems as a result of the earthquake. Per trip, through the border town of Jimaní, the CAASD tankers have the capacity of hauling and delivering more than 21,000 gallons of water. They can also go a long distance to do so. Mr. Rivas said, in addition, that the CAASD is in the position of collaborating with workers and specialized technicians in the rehabilitation of aqueduct networks. They have experts to work with the issue of drinking water. “In the face of catastrophes like this earthquake, we can go beyond the limitations of our service area, which is the province of Santo Domingo and the National District (the capital) to be in a place that urgently needs drinking water,” said Rivas. The Corporation of Aqueduct and Sewers of Santo Domingo will be part of the formal initiation of the humanitarian aid operation which is beginning of Thursday the 14th and is leaving from the border town Jimaní as part of the operation called for by the government of President Leonel Fernández to take food, medicine, clothing and water to the thousands made homeless by the 7.3 earthquake that shook Haiti on Tuesday.
