Dominican Republic Congratulated for Hosting and Organizing World Summit on the Future of Haiti “We congratulate the Dominican Republic for its constant presence, from the moment the earthquake hit and throughout the aftermath as it showed unflagging solidarity for Haiti,” Reiterating the United Nation’s commitment to Haiti, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised the leadership role played by President Fernández and the Dominican Republic in the Rebuilding of Haiti, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Through telephone communication with the Dominican President, the UN Secretary General expressed his desire that the Dominican Republic form part of the Interim Commission for the Recovery of Haiti, in agreement with the proposal made by Haitian Prime Minister, Jean Max Bellerive. Mr. Ban commended President Fernández for the high quality and organization of the event and for the positive and concrete results obtained as well as the goals being set to help this devastated country. Ban, who closely followed the World Summit on Haiti, said he was pleased to observe the great enthusiasm of the participants. “We congratulate the Dominican Republic for its constant presence, from the moment the earthquake hit and throughout the aftermath as it showed unflagging solidarity for Haiti,” was the final message from Mr. Ban Ki-moon to the Dominican people in a conversation on Saturday with President Fernández.
