Dominican Republic and Germany Sign a Mutual Investment Protection Agreement Chancellor Merkel said as soon as the agreement is signed, it will promote investors in the areas of energy to evaluate the numerous opportunities available in the Dominican Republic, mainly in the area of wind farms and other forms of non-polluting energy. The Dominican President, upon announcing the agreement, said that it seeks investment incentives between the two countries and that it bestows upon investors a sense of confidence and legality. He added that this initiative will strengthen the capacity to do business in both countries.German Chancellor Angel Merkel said that this is a transcendental agreement because it will provide major guarantees to those who wish to make investments in the Dominican Republic and vice-versa, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Upon the announcement of the signing, President Fernández said the Dominican Republic has a great deal of interest in encouraging investment in the DR especially in the area of generating clean and non-conventional energy. The agreement was announced at a press conference given by Fernández and Merkel after their meeting in the German government headquarters. President Fernández was hosted by the Institute Director, Christopher Meiner.
