President Fernández Congratulates Mario Vargas Llosa for Nobel Prize Dominican President Leonel Fernández congratulated Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa for having been awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature. “It is a great privilege that a Latin American writer of the category of Mario Vargas Llosa was chosen for the Nobel Prize in Literature. His work, known around the world, has portrayed our people with sensitivity and talent,” said the Dominican President according to the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Fernández said the Dominican people have special feelings toward Vargas Llosa who wrote one of his most famous books based on an historic event in Dominican history -the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. “Our country rejoices with the much deserved recognition given to this writer who put us on the literary map with La Fiesta del Chivo which tells the story of a period of Dominican history the world should know about, the horror of the Trujillo tyranny,” said Fernández. In his congratulatory message to the writer of La Ciudad y Los Perros, La Casa Verde and Pantaleón y Las Visitadoras, President Fernández said the Nobel Prize award to Vargas Llosa is a source of pride for all of Latin America. “We are proud to have a man of letters of his category.” | ||
