Gustave Courbet and Imperial Chinese Porcelain Embellish Santo Domingo The Ministry of Culture, as part of its preparation of programs in Santo Domingo, the American Capital of Culture, will inaugurate two large public and internationally relevant exhibitions on Thursday. The exhibition will display 52 cultural treasures on loan from the National Office of Underwater Cultural Heritage and the Museum of Casas Reales. The first inauguration will take place at 7:00 pm in the Museum of Casas Reales where, for the first time, the public will have the chance to see antique Chinese porcelain from the Ming Dynasty. The exhibition, “Imperial Chinese Art” is part of the porcelain rescued from the shipwrecked Our Lady of the Pure and Simple Conception. The exhibition will display 52 cultural treasures on loan from the National Office of Underwater Cultural Heritage and the Museum of Casas Reales. Among the treasures we will have the pleasure of viewing are objects representative of the various Emperors of the Ming Dynasty. In addition, the National Gallery of Fine Arts will inaugurate its own exhibition of “Gustave Courbet and the Apologia of Nature” which will mark the closure of its 2010 exhibition calendar. The inauguration will take place at 8:00 pm. The presence of 69 original works of art by 19th century French painter Gustave Courbet in Santo Domingo will be one of the most important painting exhibitions at the Gallery. Both exhibitions are without precedent in Dominican cultural history are free of charge and open to the public.
