Conference on Duty Free Zones in the Americas to be Held in Bavaro Dominican President Leonel Fernández will head the upcoming XIV Conference on Duty Free Zones in Latin America to open on October 28 in the Paradisus Palma Real Hotel in Bávaro. This has been decreed an event of national interest. She also indicated that the event will be a forum for discussion on what duty free zones are, the new mechanisms and duty free zones as mechanisms for the development of the people. Luisa Fernández, Director of the National Council of Duty Free Zones, underscored the support the government is showing for this business event by providing pertinent information in a press conference in the Orlando Martínez Hall of the National Palace, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Ms. Fernández said the Dominican Republic will be the seat of the XIV Conference on Duty Free Zones in Latin America which is expected to be attended by some 530 people. This 3-day international business conference will be held on October 27, 28 and 29. She also indicated that the event will be a forum for discussion on what duty free zones are, the new mechanisms and duty free zones as mechanisms for the development of the people. Important business and government representatives from over 30 Latin American countries will be present at the conference including Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela as well as the United States, Spain, Dubai and India. Dozens of international exhibitors will be at the XIV Conference on Duty Free Zones in Latin America. Representing the Dominican Republic will be the Director General of Customs, Rafael Camilo and Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Temístocles Montas. At the press release, Luis Manuel Pellerano, President of the Duty Free Zones of the Americas, stressed the fact that the Dominican Republic has been selected for this event “because it is highly productive and ends up be a valuable exchange as well as a gathering of experience from each of these countries.” Mr. Pellerano added that the effort that went into organizing the Conference in the Dominican Republic is a recognition of the conditions represented by the country in the free zones of the Dominican economy.
