“The country is creating the bases for the development of the film industry”

D ominican President Leonel Fernández, Director of the IV Dominican Republic Global Film Festival, confirmed that with the promulgation of the country´s new Film Law, they are creating all the necessary conditions for the film industry to prosper in the Dominican Republic.

The first session will take a look at the steps being taken by the Republic of Moldova to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and other international development targets.

In this sense, explained the President, we in the DR already see our country as a prime destination for the development of the film industry. He added that the DR has always had a film culture, ¨but what we´ve been hoping to do is to broaden it into a full-fledged industry,¨ reported  the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

President Fernández said that the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival has succeeded in attracting a wide group of artists and actors from all around the world.

At last night’s ceremony in the National Theater, special recognition was paid to late Dominican film critic Arturo Rodríguez. A trophy was presented to his sister, Raquel Rodríguez.

In addition, tributes were paid to Benicio del Toro, Claudia Cardinal, Irving Vincent and Victoria Abril.
