Milly Quezada Honored in the United States for Her Brilliant Career

The Queen of Merengue, Milly Quezada, was honored in the US capital for her musical and cultural achievement and her career as the precursor and best popular musician in the last 30 years.

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition and even more so when it is given for promoting one’s own musical roots and culture,” said Ms. Quezada.

In an event held by the “The Dominican American National Roundtable” to honor Dominicans living in the Diaspora, Quezada was recognized as a symbol of Dominican culture and promoter of our customs and traditions.

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition and even more so when it is given for promoting one’s own musical roots and culture,” said Ms. Quezada.

This is Quezada’s second award: she was also given a lifetime achievement award in Montreal, upon a recent visit to the Canadian city.

Dominican Consul in Canada, Raquel Jacobo de Cabral, bestowed the plaque upon Quezada, “for her contribution to elevating the meringue to an art and making it part of Dominican culture and for being a messenger of joy and hope to Dominicans living abroad.”

Milly Quezada, whose “Sólo contigo” (Only with You) is legendary, is preparing for a Christmas tour in Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico and the United States.

The tour will begin with her stellar participation in the “Christmas Lights” celebration, a special event that will take place on the steps of the National Palace and will be attended by Dominican President Leonel Fernández Reyna and his wife, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández.

Also, as part of the evening’s holiday entertainment, the traditional “Early New Year’s” show with Johnny Ventura will be performed. The show is produced by Pedro Núñez del Risco.
