President Fernández Evaluates Foreign Policy in Meeting with Dominican Ambassadors

Dominican President Leonel Fernández and his Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso met on Tuesday with the entire corps of Dominican Ambassadors from around the world to evaluate and analyze the country’s foreign policy aims and objectives.

“This dedication to building bridges has created a powerful image for the Dominican Republic and has won praise for President Leonel Fernández abroad. It is an image that has transmitted prestige to the country’s foreign policy,”

At the meeting, held in the Eduardo Latorre Diplomatic School, participants also evaluated the political and commercial relations with countries who have diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Morales Troncoso, addressing the meeting, said the country’s positive image abroad is a result of the prestige that President Fernández has brought to the country with his actions and policies.

He went on to affirm that the Dominican Republic has managed to extend its diplomatic relations with a significant number of nations as well as multilateral organizations.

“This dedication to building bridges has created a powerful image for the Dominican Republic and has won praise for President Leonel Fernández abroad. It is an image that has transmitted prestige to the country’s foreign policy,” he said according to a press release from the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Prior to the start of the meeting, the Foreign Ministry released a video highlighting the country’s achievements in the area of diplomacy in recent years.
Among the countries where diplomatic relations have been established during the administration of President Fernández, Mr. Morales Troncoso listed Morocco, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, India, South Africa, Russia and Paraguay.

The Foreign Minister pointed out that the Dominican Republic was also granted the honor of observer status of the African Union and International Organization of the Francophonie.

Morales Troncoso added that the Dominican government has also assumed the Pro-temporal Presidency of the Council of Ministers for Women’s Affairs of the Dominican Republic and Central America.
