Virtual Educa Caribe returns to focus on innovation, training and quality through distance education

This year’s VEC edition will take place from March 9th to the 11th at FUNGLODE.

This edition of the conference on virtual education, which will be attended by specialists from different parts of the Latin American region and the United States, will focus on three thematic lines of analysis and reflection.

The most important annual regional event in education and technology is back after having taken a break last year to concentrate its efforts on what was the successful hosting of Virtual Educa, in June of 2010.

This year’s edition of Virtual Educa Caribe (VEC), the sixth, will take place at FUNGLODE’s headquarters from March 9 through the 11. For the opening ceremony Brazilian academic Gurgulino Heitor de Souza, former president of the United Nations University and Assistant Secretary General of that multilateral organization, will be present.

This edition of the conference on virtual education, which will be attended by specialists from different parts of the Latin American region and the United States, will focus on three thematic lines of analysis and reflection. On the one hand, innovation, as the basis of education in these changing times. On the other, training, as an essential element of lifelong learning. And finally, quality, as an essential component of the teaching and learning processes.

VEC

Virtual Educa Caribe is the regional chapter of the Ibero-American Program Virtual Educa, attached to the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government. Virtual Educa’s General Secretariat is located in Madrid, Spain. It is also attached to the Ibero-American Secretariat (SEGIB) and works closely with the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), also based in Madrid.

The Virtual Educa Caribe initiative was launched at the Sixth Annual Meeting of Virtual Education in Mexico City, in June of 2005. The founders and main sponsors of Virtual Educa Caribe are Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). Its offices are located at FUNGLODE’s headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Besides FUNGLODE and the GFDD other VEC members include nine Dominican universities, five non-governmental organizations, a private company and five Dominican government institutions.
