President Honors Spanish Singer Raphael President Leonel Fernández honored Spanish singer, Raphael Sánchez, with the Heraldic Order of Christopher Columbus of the Level of Knight, through Decree 209-11 The award ceremony took place in the Ambassadors Hall of the National Palace. The Spanish singer was recognized for “his distinguished musical career and his prolonged presence in the Dominican Republic.” The event was presided over by Dominican President Dr. Leonel Fernández and his wife, the First Lady of the Republic, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández; Rafael Alburquerque, Vice President and José Rafael Lantigua, Minister of Culture.The award ceremony took place in the Ambassadors Hall of the National Palace. The Spanish singer was recognized for “his distinguished musical career and his prolonged presence in the Dominican Republic.” Raphael thanked the Dominican government for the distinction and said, “There are places where one feels more at home than others. I feel at home here.” Others present at the event included the Deputies Minister of Culture, Alexander Santana, Bernarda Jorge, Mateo Morrison and Lourdes Camilo de Cuello; Niní Caffaro, Director of the Eduardo Brito National Theater; musical composer Rafael Solano, other personalities from the national artistic scene and officials from the Culture Ministry.
