Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo, 04/19/2011

The Cultural Center of Spain inaugurated the “Creation INJUVE 2010” Visual Arts Show which is part of the series of prizes organized each year by the Youth Institute in Spain to support the new generation of artists who work in various mediums such as: visual arts, comic and illustration, design and  musical interpretation, among others.

The exhibition serves to get a feel for the current artistic situation as well as the sensibility of the generational area to which they belong.

The exhibition serves to get a feel for the current artistic situation as well as the sensibility of the generational area to which they belong. Those selected for this exhibition, among nearly 500 applicants, all share the common desire to project their ideas through their artwork as well using their knowledge in the areas of biology, anthropology, industrial design or leisure industry, according to the curator of the selection, Jesús Galindo, in the accompanying catalogue.

For example, among the winning pieces in the exhibition is the cultivation of real mutated worms that confuse the space and protocols of the biology lab with a stage and slides from an art exhibition. Another artist applies the method of exhaustive analysis in the shape of the circumference of the most famous brand of pizza, not unlike conceptual art of the 1970s. Another is a shower curtain shaped like a wall that divides the world.

Currently the INJUVE Creation prizes, supported by the Office of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), clearly demonstrate the state of emerging art in Spain. These prizes reflect the verification and proof of diversity, strength and vitality of the artistic talents of the youth involved. These prizes also constitute a guarantee of renovation and enrichment of those artistic languages.

The exhibition is presenting the work of the following artists: Alba Aguirre, Ampar Buxeda, Tania Castellano, Christelle Faucoulanche, Sabel Gavaldón, Tamara Kuselman, Marta Madrid, Alexandre Montourcy, Alba Mora, Jonathan Notario, OPN Studio, Andrés Paduano, Adriana Parreu, Mikeldi Pérez, Álvaro Rojas, S. Alejandro G. Salgado, María Lorena Sánchez, Federico Vladimir Strate and Jorge Tur Moltó. The exhibition will be open until May 22.
