Altagracia Province Supports Young Talent

The Ministry of Culture (MINC), through the Provincial Office of Altagracia, presented the theatrical adaptation of the novel, “Over” by one of the most notable of Dominican writers of the first half of the 20th century, Ramón Marrero Aristy.


“Over” is a play that tells the story of the injustices and abuses suffered by the sugarcane workers in the Dominican Republic at the beginning of the 20th century.


The dramatization features a cast of 20 children and young people of the 11 hours per week for six months with Professor Margaret Sosa of the Culture Ministry´s Sowing Theater (Sembrando Teatro) program.
The activity was coordinated by the Provincial Director of the Culture Ministry, Trifina Sánchez, and was seen by more than 300 people who gathered for performances at the Provincial Government buildings of  Altagracia where the shows were performed.  


“Over” is a play that tells the story of the injustices and abuses suffered by the sugarcane workers in the Dominican Republic at the beginning of the 20th century.


These first performances are part of the Sowing Theater Program which seeks to prepare young people and children from different provinces around the country to form their own theater companies and to be the main actors in their provincial theaters.
The play was put on to great critical acclaim on April 9th at a cost of 50 pesos per person. The next performance will be held during the second week in May in San Rafael del Yuna, the native town of Marrero Aristy.
