Programs and New Publications at the International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2011 The Ministry of Culture (MINC) and the Directors General of the XIV International Book Fair, Santo Domingo 2011 presented the General Program and the 21 new books to be launched at the Book Fair. Félix Batista, in his speech, stressed the quality of books being presented to the public for the first time, adding that they will enrich the various book collections of the Ministry of Culture. The event was presided over by Minister of Culture José Rafael Lantigua, along with León Félix Batista, Director of the National Publishing House; Alejandro Arvelo, General Director of the Book Fair; P. Richard Gyhra, Secretary of the Apostolic Papal Nuncio and Monsignor Ramón Benito de La Rosa y Carpio, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santiago, one of the published authors. Félix Batista, in his speech, stressed the quality of books being presented to the public for the first time, adding that they will enrich the various book collections of the Ministry of Culture. Those present were also given copies of the Cultural Program of the Book Fair in which details of all the activities of this extraordinary event can be found, making it easy for people to keep informed of times and places of the numerous activities. The books published include the following: Cuando nosotros decíamos paz, ellos gritaban guerra, (When we Said Peace, They Screamed War) by Monsignor Francisco J. Arnaiz, Archbishop Emeritus of Santo Domingo; El quehacer de la Iglesia Dominicana 1511-2011 (The Work of the Dominican Church) by Father José Luis Sáez, to both of whom this year’s Book Fair is dedicated. Books published by the National Publishing House inlcude: Saturnarioby Rey Andujar; Los muertos no sueñan (The Dead Don’t Dream) byRubén Sánchez Félix; Roja iconografía de los otoños (The Red Iconography of Autumns) byDaniel Baruc Espinal, winners of the Ultramar Literary Prize in the categories of short story, novel and poetry, respectively. Other published writers include Alexéi Tellerías, Náyila Pichardo, Rubén Echavarría and Francisco Guerrero Castro. The XIV edition of the International Book Fair, Santo Domingo 2011 will run from May 4 through 22 at the Juan Pablo Duarte Plaza Culture. The Vatican is the Guest of Honor at this year’s Fair.
