Cycle of Master Classes at International Book Fair With the official opening of the International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2011 on Wednesday, May 4th, the Ministry of Culture will introduce its series of Master Classes on a wealth of topics that will be given by national and international experts and academics. The Master Classes of the International Book Fair 2011 are free and open to the public. They begin at 8:00 pm on each of the announced dates. The classes are being coordinated by the writers, León Félix Batista and Eulogio Silverio. The Master Class series will begin of Thursday, May 5th with a conference offered by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, “Pontifical Council of Culture and the Cultural Policy of the Holy See.” The conference will be held in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater. “Journalism and Culture” is the the second Master Class to be given on Saturday May 7th in the Culture Hall of the National Theater. Spanish journalist Juan Cruz Ruiz will be offering the conference. On Wednesday, May 11, Fernando Pérez Memén will talk about “The Vatican: The First Government to Recognize Dominican Independence?” Famous writer Carlos Cuauhtémoc Sánchez will address audiences on Friday the 13th about “The Human Condition at the Current Crossroads: Challenges and Possibilities.” He will talk at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater. Mario Arvelo Caamaño will discuss “Theologies and Hunger” on May 16th and Euclides Gutiérrez Félix will look at “The Execution of Trujillo 50 Years Later” on May 18th. Monsignor Barthelémy Adoukonou will give a conference on “The Challenges of Inter-Culturalism” on Thursday May 19th. To wrap up the Master Class series on Friday May 20th, José Miguel Oviedo will discuss “Mario Vargas Llosa: Master Guidelines from a Master.” The Master Classes of the International Book Fair 2011 are free and open to the public. They begin at 8:00 pm on each of the announced dates. The classes are being coordinated by the writers, León Félix Batista and Eulogio Silverio. The XIV International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2011 will take place from May 4 through May 22 in the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza. The Vatican is this year’s Guest of Honor. The Fair will be dedicated to Monsignor Francisco J. Arnaiz and Father José Luis Sáez in commemoration of the 500-year anniversary of the constitution of the Dioceses of Santo Domingo and La Vega. As part of the Master Class Cycle, Juan Cruz Ruiz will discuss “Journalism and Culture.” The conference “Free or Captives: How do Women Live in Literature?” will be discussed by the writer, Rosa María Britton
