Gala Concert in Honor of Papal Representative at the XIV International Book Fair 2011

A gala concert was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Choral Group of the First Cathedral of the Americas in honor of His Eminence the Reverend Gianfranco Cardinal Ravisi, President of the Pontifical Council of Vatican Culture.

The Cathedral Choral Group, under the direction of José Delmonte Peguero, began its performance with several songs including the “Kyrie”, “Gloria”, “Credo”, “Sanctus Benedictus” and “Agnus Dei”

The concert was held in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater. Cardinal
Ravasi was accompanied by Dominican Minister of Culture, José Rafael Lantigua; His Eminence the Reverend Nicolás de Jesús Cardenal López Rodríguez, Archbishop of the Metropolitan Church of Santo Domingo as well as other representatives of the Catholic Church.

The Cathedral Choral Group, under the direction of José Delmonte Peguero, began its performance with several songs including the “Kyrie”, “Gloria”, “Credo”, “Sanctus Benedictus” and “Agnus Dei”.

During the second half of the concert, following intermission, several soloists performed: Modesto Acosta, Ondina Matos, Nelson Veras and Belkis Hernández. They sang “Avec Venom Corpus”, “Ave María”, “Laudate Dominun” and “Paris Angelicus.”

Reverend Gianfranco Cardinal Ravisi arrived in the Dominican Republic in representation of Pope Benedict XVI and the Vatican, which is the Guest of Honor at this year’s Book Fair.
