The large sports complex, with its $100 million peso ($2.6 million dollars) price tag, covers an area of around 540,000 square feet, can house 72 players and includes two full-sized baseball fields, bullpen training mounds, a gymnasium and classrooms. President Fernández, speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, expressed satisfaction with a training center of this type in the DR. Fernández reminded those present that an important number of Dominican baseball players have played with the Cleveland Indians over the years, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Paul Dolan, owner and executive director of the Cleveland Indians, said there was a “magnificent climate of security” for investment in the Dominican Republic. Prior to cutting the ribbon, President Fernández took a walk around the spacious sports installation then threw the first pitch to officially inaugurate the place as a baseball-training academy. Indians owner Dolan gave the President a Cleveland Indians jersey with his name and the number one on it.
