Businessman Manuel Arsenio Ureña was sworn in this Wednesday as director of the Mirador del Oeste Park, a beautiful protected area located in the surrounding area of the Haina river lower basin.

The inauguration was led by Dr. Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, who highlighted the qualities and commitment of the businessman from Santiago..

The Mirador del Oeste Park, a natural area created by Decree 207-02, had been completely neglected and is one of the most valuable parks since it combines cultural, architectural, historical, and biodiversity elements.

A number of sport activities, aquatic and mountain-bike, as well as other recreation and family activities take place in the Mirador del Oeste Park. It consists of two Protection and Security Centers, one of which was opened today in Mr. Manuel Arsenio Ureña’s honor.

During the opening of the Protection and Security Center, Manuel Arsenio Ureña and the Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources will lead the planting of more than one thousand hybrid mahogany trees, thereby creating a Forest honoring the businessman from Santiago, who will assume henceforth responsibility for the park.

By accepting this responsibility businessman Arsenio Ureña reaffirmed his status as an entrepreneur committed to the environment and natural resources, and welcomed the Minister’s appointment, pledging that he will ensure the smooth running of all areas of the park.

The activity organized by the Ministry of the Environment is part of the celebration of the Bio-Diversity Week, which includes a meeting on Friday on Forests and Biodiversity at the Bella Vista Ecological Park in Santiago; a meeting next Saturday with colleges and schools at the Las Malvinas Park, and a main event on Forest Biodiversity to be held at the Mirador del Oeste Park, in the Engombe area, next Sunday.
